London Calling

Addison's favorite British pub has made its way to Frisco, finally

Addison's favorite British pub has made its way to Frisco, finally

After many months under construction, the Londoner Pub is finally open in Frisco, at the Dallas North Tollway and Main. We took it upon ourselves to check it out for you—in the interest of good thorough local reporting!

If you aren’t familiar with the Londoner, it is not a national chain but a legitimate English pub owned by a legitimate English restaurateur who now calls Dallas home. Barry Tate oversees every aspect of the pub, down to the wooden beams.

The soft opening was May 22 (in time for Jimmy Buffett) with the grand opening on May 29. Frisco Savvy visited a couple of times, a weekday happy hour and a Saturday night (don’t worry, we won’t name-check the grand opening).

The interior is much like the Addison location: a long bar area underneath multiple TVs showing soccer games, with dedicated areas for darts and billiards, some cozy fireplace seating, and then a seating area better suited to meals and groups.

(Of course thankfully we get to skip the most unpleasant aspect of the Addison Londoner: cigarette smoke inside! Frisco smokers can have their butts on the back patio, or on the soon-to-be-open balcony upstairs.)

The Londoner has a trad pub menu, with features like fish and chips, shepherd’s and steak pie, bangers and mash, and several curry dishes. There are also wings, nachos and the like, for those seeking American bar food.

There are happy hour specials from 4-7pm M-F and Sunday from 4pm, as well as a brunch menu on Saturday and Sunday.

Night owls, take note: the Londoner’s kitchen serves till 10 pm on Sun-Wed and till midnight on Thurs-Sat.

On the eve of the grand opening, the Josh Goode Band was packing them in, so this is clearly also a venue that can manage live music. And we hope the Londoner is going to draw a big soccer crowd from nearby Pizza Hut Park.

Speaking of soccer, if you’re already a fan you know that the FIFA World Cup begins Friday, June 11. Make plans to get a good seat for your favorite matches, as the Londoner will likely attract lots of FIFA watchers.

Another upcoming Londoner event worth noting is a Scotch tasting on June 10, hosted by Glenfiddich. Entry is $20 and includes hors d’oeuvres; reservations are recommended so check the website for more details.

You alright, mate? Head to the Londoner for a pint and some chips, and you will be soon be.
