Best Fits for Bathing Beauties

Bathing suit shopping can be as much fun as PMS. But you can’t put it off any longer: Memorial Day weekend looms, as does the family vacation to Hawaii (or staycation to Hawaiian Falls).

Savvy girls know to improve the process by arming themselves with tips for success. The secret to Savvy swimsuit shopping is two-fold: first, know your body type, and two, know what details, cuts and styles flatter your type.

Body type: Are you straight figure, pear-shaped, apple-shaped or hourglass?

Of course every shape can be fabulous. Now: what to wear? Savvy sunbathers look for suits that are properly fitted and figure-flattering.

StyleBakery.com just finished a weeklong feature on best swimsuit fits for your body type. Complete with shopping tips and style pics, this is a great resource no matter what shape you are.

•   Pear shapes and tummy bulges. Fave tip: “Opt for a bikini bottom that has slightly wider sides, skip the string side-tie versions that only draw unwanted attention.”

•   Small busts and straight figures. Fave tip: “You have the body to wear cute, ruffled tops that are hot right now!”

•   Large busts and plus sizes. Fave tip: “Halter-top bikinis offer support while providing some great cleavage too. Look for styles that are banded under the bustline and can be tied in back and around the neck to allow you to make adjustments.”

Improve your chances for swimsuit success further with these Savvy shopping strategies:

Don’t try on when you’ve just eaten a big meal and are feeling full, or if it’s bloat-time of the month. You’ll feel prettiest (and therefore get best results) when you’re feeling slimmest.

Remember that swimsuits are usually sized smaller than regular clothes; if you are a dress size 8, be willing to try on a 10 or even 12 in a suit. Don’t cram yourself into the wrong size just because of the number on the tag. Sausage casing = not a good look!

Do be open to trying on many different styles that flatter. Just because you wore a string bikini in high school, doesn’t mean it’s the right look now. Similarly, if you’re used to a one-piece Speedo from your summers as a lifeguard, consider breaking out into something less functional, more fabulous.

Work with the body you’ve got right now, and make it amazing and Savvy for pool, beach, backyard or boat deck!
