A Ball and a Half, Part 2
Everyone was making the rounds, meeting friends old and new, and enjoying frosty beverages and hand-carved brisket with beans (our fave was the corn salsa in the avocado, so fresh and fun!). Top execs from Lattimore Materials Company, Baylor Plano, The Republic Group, Prime Lending, Glazer’s Distributing, and Swingle Collins were on the scene.
There weren’t many dry eyes in the house when the Silver Dollar Ball Committee took the stage to share who they had each personally lost to cancer… and there weren’t many closed wallets when Brendan Higgins (serving his third year as Master of Ceremonies for the Ball) took the mic to call us all to action, to give generously for a cure so that we can help the American Cancer Society beat this dreadful disease.
The Live Auction started soon after, and it was an exciting time; people went crazy over the chance to have a personal, private concert with Jack Ingram and 100 of their closest friends… it ended up going for $25,000! And over 50 guests committed $1,000 each to help send a pediatric cancer patient to summer camp.
We spotted Frisco City Councilman Jeff Cheney and his wife Dana doing a little stylish two-steppin’. We also chatted with Shepler’s CEO Bob Myers (who needs to get himself relocated to Frisco muy pronto!) and longtime Frisco resident Mark Wakeland (you may have heard of his dad…), as well as Leslie and John Keating. Also spotted were John and Iris Shaver, Tiffany Appleby, TruFire owner David Kazarian, Lisa and Scott Starnes, Amy Turner, and a bevy of beauties from Heart’s Desire.
When Mark Chesnutt took the stage, the boots started scootin’! The lack of a dance floor didn’t stop dedicated Ball-goers, and Eric and Mindi Storey-Johnson were cutting a (dirt) rug. We rocked late into the night to crowd-pleasing #1’s like “Bubba Shot the Jukebox” and “Too Cold At Home.”Suddenly, it was pumpkin time, and there were treats and goodies to go. With full bellies, empty wallets, and laden arms, we learned that while our coach was in care of the valet, it had been loaded with swag bags from Markham Fine Jewelers (no jewelry inside, alas, but still many other fun treats). We rode off into the starry night, blissfully fĂȘted in true Texas style.
The 2010 Silver Dollar Ball was a Savvy evening for a wonderful cause and we already can’t wait for 2011!
