Denim and Diamonds
The nice thing about a gala night when the attire is “Western chic” is that you can go a little over the top. (Those of you Houston transplants out there know this well—it’s like dressing for rodeo season!) So while you might not get these out for everyday wear, a Savvy Texan can always keep a couple of “boots and black tie” pieces stashed away for emergencies.
The way to outfit for Western chic is to start at the bottom! You’ve got to start with the boots and plan everything around those. We love this black pair with turquoise embroidery, pictured.
Next, plan your jewels. Boots are great, but without some bling you’re just a ranch-hand. This fun beaded cross necklace is dripping with gems, and plus is a total steal at thirty bucks. You want to sparkle when you’re cuttin’ a rug to Mark Chesnutt.
Savvy gala-goers need la bolsa for provisions. How cute is this vintage-style vinyl shoulder bag with a bucking bronc on it? The perfect bag to stash your iPhone and lip gloss in, plus a credit card (or two) for bidding on silent and live auction items. Need more room? We like this blingy cowgirl hobo with rhinestone buckle.
Now, we can’t all be hat girls, but if you are the kind that can wear it well, and if you really wanted to go over the top, you won’t see a topper like this one coming and going. Black wool with hand-painted guitar and silver hat band announces “I’m here for the party!”
From here, fill in the look with your favorite jeans and glam top. Think fringe, suede, sequins… and maybe a little shrug, cardi or short jacket for after nightfall. (Especially if it stays cool this weekend like it was today. You’re going to be out on the range, cowgirl… don’t get caught unprepared.)All these great pieces are available at Shepler’s Western Wear, who deserve some love because they are also a big sponsor of the 2010 Silver Dollar Ball.
It is the generosity of companies like Shepler’s—and partygoers like you who will enable American Cancer Society to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars on Saturday night.
“Rhinestone Cowboy” up!
