Step Up For Frisco Orgs

FWL needs your blood! It only takes an hour.

FWL needs your blood! It only takes an hour.

“The Savvy Way” means living well and doing good. We believe in giving back and helping community organizations whenever we possibly can, and in letting our readers know about ways to do the same. Here are three Frisco agencies that could use your help in the next month; all three are registered 501(c)3 charities so your cash or goods donation is usually tax-deductible.

Frisco Family Services needs your new stuff. They are collecting live and silent auction items for their 2010 gala, themed “Salsa Nights” (hot-cha-cha!). The auctions are a major fundraising element of the Gala, their biggest event. FFSC has been hit hard by the recession, with cash donations down and service clients up.

If you have a business that you would like to promote to hundreds of Frisco’s savviest citizens, consider donating… even if your business is a professional firm that doesn’t have “auction-ready” products or services, you can always donate something else.

(Also, check out FFSC’s “Candles With Care”, a fundraiser with premium soy candles, handpoured by our very own Robb. There is only one word for these candles: amazing. I have quit buying Henri Bendel and L’Occitane altogether, because these burn so well and so long, and the scents are TDF.)

Frisco Humane Society needs your old stuff. Their annual Yard Sale is a fundraising event where you drop off your unwanted things, and they resell it in a massive tag sale to raise money for medical care for unwanted dogs and cats who need adoption. You can begin dropping off your stuff at Advantage Storage on March 1. Check out their home page for all the details.

Frisco Women’s League needs your blood. (mua-ha-ha-ha!) No, they haven’t turned into Cullens… but they are hosting a blood drive on March 6 at the Wiggly Play Center, with Carter BloodCare. The drive is in honor of Emma Pritchard, a sweet little girl who died from complications surrounding pneumonia, but lived longer than expected on life support thanks to blood donors. Get all the details here. Donating blood only takes an hour, and you can always make more. Added bonus: you always get a cookie and you usually get a t-shirt from Carter BloodCare too.

If you need additional info on any of these programs, give us a holler and we will connect you directly with the person in charge of the particular event.
