New Year, New You?

Do you have a list like this one? We don't think you should bother.

Do you have a list like this one? We don't think you should bother.

2010 is only four days old, and already we’re sick of the commercials for weight loss programs and saving money. How about you? The Taco Bell Drive-Thru Diet, anyone? (So wish we were kidding)

The problem with most New Year resolutions is that they are these huge goals like “lose 50 pounds” or “pay off all credit cards”… and it’s hard to make progress on big goals, especially while still juggling real life. So you start off with a bang but then you get busy… and it’s less and less progress, then it’s no progress… then by February, you’re discouraged, demoralized, and figure what’s the point anyway. You know this drill!

And don’t feel bad, because it isn’t just you. According to Franklin Covey, the time management experts, losing weight and saving money are the top two resolutions for this year… and 77% of people who make resolutions break them.

Rather than vow to make some enormously ambitious change this year—which you know is probably not sustainable anyway… why not instead try to make smaller improvements that you’re more likely to maintain?

Besides, we already think you’re pretty fabulous anyway.

Here’s an example of something that would be educational and inspiring, and can make your life better… while not requiring that you spend all year eating wheat germ or cabbage soup:

Feather Your Nest is a series of luncheons with speakers, hosted by the Ritz-Carlton, Dallas. According to their website, “the speakers will highlight everyday life skills and matters of the heart, ranging from design and decor, etiquette and protocol, to well-being with an emphasis on family, home, faith and fellowship with friends.”

Now, doesn’t that sound Savvy?

The inaugural Feather Your Nest luncheon takes place a week from today, on January 11, 11:30 am – 1:30 pm. Reservations are required.
