Baby, It’s Cold Outside
Camel coats have returned en vogue this fall. These are a great staple and investment piece (very Savvy at a time when we’re all trying to spend prudently). Lots of designers are doing camel in classic shapes like the trench, plus trendy new silhouettes like this kimono, equestrian-shaped blazer, or pea coat.
And, just as the classic trench shape has returned, also back for 2009 is the belted coat. Long and short designs benefit from a waist-cinching belt, and it creates an hourglass shape, which is a look that also flatters many figures. We like this gray plaid one (great price!), this frosty ivory trench (great pick for blondes), and this short red quilted coat—a fantastic color pop of holiday cheer.
Oversized and fur collars are also big right now. The faux-fur portrait collar and cuffs on this metallic shell checks all the boxes. We also like the fur collar on this slim olive leather jacket.Of course with conservative, trench, and plaid all making comebacks, you can never go wrong with Burberry. Their classic, tailored outerwear will last forever, and never go out of style.
Don’t forget your accessories. In Texas, we don’t get much opportunity to bundle up in fabulous cozy hats, scarves, and gloves, so enjoy ‘em while you can. Here are some of our faves:
- Fingerless gloves allow you to still work your iPhone and tie your kid’s shoelaces. This cashmere pair are delish. Or you could get a pair from Old Navy or Target for just a couple bucks, and snip off the tips.
- The Juicy Couture girl in your life is coveting the “Buttons” scarf and hat set (pictured above), we guarantee it. Available in four colors.
- Although we don’t lose as much of our body heat through our heads as once thought, knit berets and caps will keep you toasty.
- Don’t rule out earmuffs —they keep your ears warm and don’t create hat hair!
Speaking of, don’t forget the effect of cold weather on your hair. Central heating pushes out hot, bone-dry air that creates flyaways and frizzies; talk to your stylist about some intensive moisture treatments that are right for your hair type.
