Something’s Fishy

Ocean Prime is a new supper club in Uptown

Today, we’re going to be a little “Dallas Savvy”, because we want to get a few new spots on your radar for the holidays. (Plus, there’s nothing Savvy about treating Collin County like a little bubble that you never leave unless it’s an emergency… you have to wander out eventually, to stay fresh and keep your horizons wide.)

Ocean Prime is a brand-spanking-new supper club down at Rosewood Court right near the Crescent, featuring seafood and steaks. They have locations around the country, and this is their first Texas establishment. We scouted it last Saturday, and the place was beautiful… and packed, which is how it’s been since it opened, the week before Thanksgiving.

The menu is lots of heart-stopping, splurge fare: starters like deviled eggs with truffle oil… Wisconsin cheddar fondue… loads of extremely stylish potato and veggie sides (all à la carte, naturellement)… and of course lots of steakhouse classics like a raw bar, wedge salad, Oysters Rockefeller, and every cut of fish or beef you’d expect.

“In addition to the delicious cuisine, Ocean Prime’s lively cocktail lounge will feature piano music nightly and 12 signature cocktails, including the popular Berries & Bubbles, which combines Belvedere Cytrus Vodka, marinated blackberries, housemade sour, and Domaine Chandon Brut.” Pegasus News, 10-26-09

Berries & Bubbles? Yes, please! So if you’re looking for a swank spot for a nice dinner out, consider this one. And be sure to let us know how it was!

Needless Necessities at Knox-Henderson has a great sale going on

Needless Necessities at Knox-Henderson has a great sale going on

Do you need necessities? Even needless ones? Needless Necessities is a home décor and gifts store on Henderson, just east of 75. They provide a lovely shopping experience, and their approach is one we find very Savvy— curating the best of the best in high-end decor. I never walk in there that I’m not wowed by their merchandising and arrangement… what a great place to get inspired about your spaces.

Needless Necessities is offering a limited-time 35%-off-everything-in-the-store coupon. The promotion is called “Save the Store” which hopefully doesn’t mean what we think it means… (sad face). We don’t know how long the coupon will last so print it now, and go this weekend.

Gold-sequined ballet flats? How much do you love that?

Gold-sequined ballet flats? How much do you love that?

Let us introduce you to Elaine Turner—a fabulous Texas designer who makes exquisite shoes, bags, and small leathers. Elaine is a Houston native, and has boutiques in Rice Village, and here in Dallas at Northpark. Her shops are like a candy store for big girls, filled with exquisite bijoux everywhere you turn.

Plus Elaine is a big supporter of the Heroes and Handbags events, which raise money for pediatric cancer patients… so you know we love that!

In addition to her shops in Dallas and Houston, Elaine is carried by Nordstrom, Saks, and some other top boutiques. If you are looking for a gift (maybe even one for yourself) that you simply won’t see coming and going, check out Elaine Turner.

Because, let’s be honest: the key to staying Savvy in the suburbs is to try new things, try new styles, new shops, and new experiences, so as not to fall into a rut. As Grandma always says, a few inches is the only difference between a rut and a grave.
