Partner Profile: The Gents Place

The Gents Place is a Frisco original

The Gents Place is a Frisco original

When this website was still just a gleam in our eye, we knew we wanted to have a Frisco Savvy event at The Gents Place; founder Ben Davis is literally one of the first people we talked to in the local business community about what we wanted to do with Frisco Savvy, because we think so highly of his shop. This upscale grooming destination for gentlemen is not just a marketing gimmick; they provide quality products and services in a welcoming atmosphere that encourages clients to relax and look their best. We are pleased to present The Gents Place as our first Frisco Savvy Partner Profile.

From the day I first noticed the sign on The Gents Place door last December (”a men’s spa?” I thought, “What is that?”), we have been fans of this refined haven for men’s grooming and spa services. (They were barely open two weeks when I bought a gift card for my husband last Christmas. He’s now a regular, and we recommend TGP to everyone who will listen.)

Plus, the facility is just beautifully appointed, with leather club chairs, flat-screen HDTVs, bar, fireplace… the perfect place for a Savvy party!

From a bona fide hot-lather straight-razor shave (which has returned en vogue from its 19th-century heyday as today’s premium male grooming service), to haircut with scalp and neck massage, to exclusive product lines, to complimentary beer, wine and whiskey in the waiting area… The Gents Place offers signature services and features that you simply can’t find in other barbershops. North Texas gentlemen of all ages receive extraordinary service in a civilized atmosphere with highly-trained grooming professionals.

But it isn’t just the nice décor and upscale services that make The Gents Place so Savvy. CEO Ben Davis is totally tuned in to what guys want:

“Basically The Gents Place was the result of not being able to find the kind of barbershop that I personally wanted to patronize,” Ben explained. “All I could get was a lousy haircut at a discount chain, or a froufrou experience at my wife’s salon. What I wanted was the old-school kind of barbershop that our fathers and grandfathers used to visit… where they could get a great shave and haircut, enjoy a drink and a cigar, watch the game, and talk about what was going on around town.”

Ben has succeeded in creating that experience in North Dallas, and everyone is taking notice. The Gents Place is winning awards and getting rave reviews from all over the Metroplex.

One of the special features of The Gents Place is that it isn’t merely a men’s salon; it’s also a club. By offering memberships with multiple services, The Gents Place has turned customers into member clients. In addition to services, members have access to shoeshines, private events, Scotch tastings, and more. And the member plans have names like “The Fat Cat” and “The Dealmaker,” which are too fun for words.

The packages come in many different options, and are a clever solution for the gentleman whose idea of skincare is Dial and Gillette, and whose usual haircut process goes something like:

1. Look in mirror, realize he is getting shaggy
2. Wait one month. Repeat Step 1.
3. Vow to make appointment.
4. Forget. Wait one week.
5. Wife reminds that the family portrait is coming up. Swear quietly. Vow to get haircut.
6. Call last place he got haircut. Company has changed names. Ask for stylist who did last cut. She is gone. Swear loudly. Hang up.
7. Wait two weeks.
8. Dash into Super-Qwik-Klips in a panic, one hour before portrait session.
9. Look miserable and poorly groomed in the Christmas cards that go out to all family and friends.

Thanks to an environment where a haircut, shave, or skin treatment is a pleasure instead of an annoying chore, gentlemen clients at The Gents Place are starting to learn what us ladies have known all along: a salon visit can be a relaxing experience, something to look forward to instead of a necessary evil.

The Gents Place is offering a new gift for the 2009 holiday season, and this is no run-of-the-mill gift card! A Padrón cigar accompanies a card in any denomination (which can be used on any services at The Gents Place, or even one of the monthly or annual memberships), in a handsome brown box with silver ribbon.

This is the perfect way to introduce a special man in your life to some pampering at the hands of master-trained professionals, in a country club environment where he can enjoy the company of gentlemen.

And, how much we do love The Gents Place??? They are giving us one of these fabulous gift boxes including a $50 gift card… to give to a Frisco Savvy reader! Stay tuned for details… and here’s a hint… start thinking of who you would give it to, and why.
